Exclamation GE Recalls Ranges Due to Fire and Burn Hazards
Model Number: See Below   Brand: General Electric   Appliance Age: Less than 1 year

GE Recall

General Electric Consumer & Industrial, of Louisville, Kentucky, issued a recall today for 28,000 GE Profile 30" Freestanding Duel Fuel ranges due to possible fire and burn hazards, according to a press release issued by the company and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission today.

The hazard stems from the wiring in the rear of the ranges overheating. GE is aware of 47 reports of overheated wiring, including 33 reports of wiring that caught fire. Of these, one fire caused structural damage to the home. There are 14 reports of minor property damage and no injuries have been reported.

Consumers should immediately stop using the oven part of the range and contact GE for a free repair. Consumers can continue to use the cooktop burners safely according to GE.
The recall involves the following GE Profile 30" Freestanding Duel Fuel ranges with the following models and serial numbers. Check to see if your range is included in the recall by locating these numbers on the left inside corner of the bottom drawer of the unit.

Brand Model Number Begins With: Serial Number Begins With:
GE Profile J2B900 LD, MD, RD, SD, TD, VD, ZD, AF, DF, FF, GF, HF, LF, MF
GE Profile J2B915 MF, RF, SF, TF, VF, ZF, AG, DG, FG, GG, HG, LG, MG, RG, SG, TG, VG, ZG

The ranges were manufactured in Mexico and sold in appliance and department stores from June 2002 to December 2005 and retailed between $1,300 and $2,000.

The problem with the refrigerators is caused by the relay - the component that turns on the refrigerator's compressor - which can cause overheating and pose a serious fire hazard.

For additional information and to schedule your free repair, contact GE toll-free at (888) 352-9764 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday ET, or visit the firm's Web site at www.geappliances.com

Default Re: GE Recalls Ranges Due to Fire and Burn Hazards

Thanks for this recall alert. I will have to check a couple of my siblings about their ranges. The other one just got married and I think they have received a few GE appliances as wedding gifts. I hope none of these gifts is a GE Profile range.
