Default Drain pump won't stop when empty
Model Number: GSD4930X66WW   Brand: GE   Appliance Age: 5-10 years

I have a GE Profile dishwasher GSD4930X66. I'm getting a C1 error code. Checked all of the drain lines, the air gap is clear, pressed the Reset button and the disposal is empty.
What happens is, when in Normal Cycle, all the water pumps out in about 1 minute 5 seconds but the pump keeps on running until the C1 error is displayed, then the pump stops at 2 plus minutes and the washer moves on to the next part of the cycle. C1 remains on the Display until I press the Reset button.
If I press the Reset button and then start the washer in the Rinse & Hold cycle, all the water pumps out in about 1 minute 5 seconds, the motor runs for about 15 to 20 seconds then turns off with no error.
What is causing the drain pump to continue running after all the water has been pumped out?
Thanks for your help.
Walt

Walt,
The first thing I would check on your model is to see if the float switch is or could be binding. On your machine it is located in the front left corner of the inner tub on the bottom. It will look like an upside down plastic cup. There will be a screw holding the cover down (sometimes with a small stainless clip for the heater as well) Remove that cover to expose the float and pull the float out of the machine. Make sure you do not have any residue under the float or on the inside of the cover that could be binding it in the "up" position. The float is basically what tells the machine to stop filling and also tells your control when the machine is empty.
Good luck

Thanks Robert,

I had already cleaned the Float switch. It is working properly.
