Default Agitation/drain noise

Last night our washer started to make a clunking sound during agitation. The agitator was working fine it just made a clunk sound when it went in one direction. I advanced the timer to try get it to the drain cycle and then the noise went from a rhythmic clunk to a steady loud grinding noise (almost like a stripped gear sound). Anyway...after crawling under the unit this morning I tried to see some indication of a seized tranny. There was no oil pooling and the agitator seems to move freely which got me to thinking maybe the direct drive coupler is pooched (the unit is just at the 10 year mark...maybe 11yr). Thanks for the help and merry xmas!!

Well...its not the coupler. Gonna call the service tech tomorrow and hopefully it wont cost too much for a transmission.

Sure will....although now the wife says leave it till after xmas. We're not in a position to fork out bucks for a new machine anyway. She'll do the few loads we get at the laundromat for the time being. So it prolly wont be until sometime in the new year before I know for sure what the issue is. I'll post then. Happy holidays!
